Creating a Passage that Groups Items Together

Passage templates allow you to create item sets that link a passage or other type of media to a group of related items.

For example, you could create a reading passage about a historical event and link it with items that will evaluate the students’ understanding of that event.

You can group multiple items in an item set on a single test page. The passage or media element in an item set does not include a response area or an answer key, but the items you link with it do.

1.To fill out the template, enter the content for the passage or other media type in the provided text box. You can use the toolbar in this box to format text and insert media elements.

2.In the toolbar above the template, click Save Item.

3.To create items to link with the item set, click Add Item to Passage to the left of the template and select an option for adding an item.

• You can enter the content for the linked item by following the instructions for the appropriate item type in the section Filling Out Item Templates. You can repeat this step to add more items, as necessary.
• You cannot link a new item set to an original item that already exists in your libraries.
