Overview of Response Entry

Response Entry Overview

The following test tools are available:

Global ToolsDescription
Done Entering Data ButtonThis button appears after you enter data for all questions. Select this button to begin the test submission process.

Help (?) Button

To view the on-screen Help Guide window, select ? in the upper-right corner.

Items Dropdown List

To quickly navigate to an item, select an item number from the Items dropdown list in the upper-left corner.

  • If an item has been marked for review, Item Marked for Review Flag displays next to the item.
  • If an item has been skipped or not answered, Item skipped warning icon displays next to the item.

Line Reader Button

Line Reader Tool

To highlight an individual line of text in a passage or question, select the Line ReaderLine Reader Tool button.

Masking

To temporarily cover a distracting area of the test page:

  1. Select the [Masking] square [Masking Button] icon.
  2. Select and drag across the distracting area.
  3. Release the mouse button.
  4. To close the Masking tool, select Masking again.
Multiplication Table

To use the multiplication table, select Multiplication Table from the global tools.

Navigation Buttons

To move between test pages, use the Back and Next buttons in the upper-left corner.

Notes

To enter notes in an on-screen notepad, select Notes in the global menu.

Number Table

To use the number table, select Number Table from the global tools. This tool lists the numbers 1 to 100.

Pause Button

To pause a test, select Pause in the global menu. Pausing the test will temporarily log you out.

Print-on-Demand

Print Page Button

To print a test item when Print-on-Demand has been enabled, select the [Print Page] printer [Print Page Button] icon.

Save Button

Save Button

To save a score or response entry, select the [Save] button. Score and response entries are also automatically saved with a timestamp (Timestamp indicating when item was last saved ) upon entry.

Zoom Buttons


To enlarge the text and images on a test page, select Zoom In in the global menu. You can zoom in up to four levels. To undo zooming, select Zoom Out in the global menu.

Context Menu ToolsDescription
American Sign Language (ASL)

To view audio content translated into American Sign Language (ASL) via an on-screen video, select American Sign Language from the (Undefined variable: TDS Terms.ASL and context menu).

To view ASL videos:

  1. From the (Undefined variable: TDS Terms.ASL and context menu), select American Sign Language[American Sign Language Option].
    • If only one ASL video is available, the video opens automatically.
    • If multiple ASL videos are available, sign language [American Sign Language Icon] icons appear next to the test content for each video. Select the icon for the test content you wish to translate into ASL.
Closed CaptioningStimuli with audio elements automatically display closed captions for students testing with the appropriate accommodations.
CommentsTo provide feedback for a question, select notepad iconComments from the context menu and either type in your comment or select a comment option from the dropdown list that appears.
Expandable Items

When the screen is divided vertically, test questions (items) can be expanded to cover the width of the whole screen. When used in conjunction with the Expandable Passages universal tool—that is, Expandable Passages is not turned off by the test examiner—this tool can be used to expand either passages or questions.

  • To expand the passage section, select the right arrow icon [Right Arrow Icon] below the global menu. To collapse the expanded passage section, select the left arrow icon [Left Arrow Icon] in the upper-right corner.
  • To expand the question section, select the left arrow icon [Left Arrow Icon] below the global menu. To collapse the expanded question section, select the right arrow icon [Right Arrow Icon] in the upper-left corner.

Expandable Item arrow icons can also be used when the screen is divided horizontally to expand an item [Expand Item Arrow] or collapse the expanded item [Collapse Item Arrow]. The arrow icons will be on the right side of the screen.

Expandable Passages

When the screen is divided vertically, students can expand and contract the passage in the left pane to cover the width of the whole screen.

  • To expand the passage section, select the right arrow icon [Right Arrow Icon] below the global menu. To collapse the expanded passage section, select the left arrow icon [Left Arrow Icon] in the upper-right corner.

Expandable Passage arrow icons can also be used when the screen is divided horizontally to expand a passage [Collapse Item Arrow] or collapse the expanded passage [Expand Item Arrow]. The arrow icons will be on the right side of the screen.

Highlighter

To highlight text, select the text on the screen and then select Highlight Selection from the context menu. To remove highlighting, select Reset Highlighting from the context menu.

Text in images cannot be highlighted.

Item ResetTo clear the entered response for a question, select Item Response Reset from the context menu.
Mark as No Response To mark a question as “No Response” in the Listening and Reading domains, select Mark as No Response from the context menu. A warning message will ask the user to confirm that the item should be marked with a “No Response.” Upon confirmation, the answer choices will no longer be selectable and the [No Response] icon [Mark as No Response icon], will appear next to the item number.
Notepad

To take notes, select the Notepad option from the context menu.

Print Item

When Print-on-Demand has been enabled, to send a print request for an individual question, select Print Item from the context menu. After sending the request, the [Printer] [Printer icon next to the passage indicating that the passage has an associated print request] icon appears next to the question number. When there is a passage and item on the screen in a split-screen layout, select Print Item from the context menu on the item side of the screen.

The Print Item option will also be available for students that have the Braille accommodation.

Print Passage

When Print-on-Demand has been enabled, to print a passage, select Print Passage from the context menu on the passage side of the screen. After sending the request, the [Printer] [Printer icon next to the passage indicating that the passage has an associated print request] icon appears next to the question number. This is only available when the passage and item are displayed in a split-screen layout.

The Print Passage option will also be available for students that have the Braille accommodation.

Strikethrough

For multiple choice and multi-select questions, you can cross out an answer option to focus on the options you think might be correct. There are two options for using this tool:

Option A:

  1. To activate Strikethrough mode, open the context menu and select Strikethrough.
  2. Select the answer options you wish to strike out.
  3. To deactivate Strikethrough mode, press the [Esc] key or select outside the response area.

Option B:

  1. Right-click an answer option and select Strikethrough.

Text-to-Speech

Text-to-Speech (TTS) button

To listen to stimuli and items, select a speak option from the context menu.

  • Text-to-Speech for stimuli/passages and/or questions is available by selecting the desired option in the Text-to-Speech dropdown menu under Embedded Designated Supports.

To listen to your responses to constructed-response items, use the TTS button TTS button in the item response area.

Tutorial To view a short video demonstrating how to respond to a particular question type, select Tutorial from the context menu.

Audio Speed Dropdown Menu

To change the audio speed, select a speed using the Audio Speed dropdown menu on the right side of the audio player. audio player with audio speed dropdown The speed you select applies across all test pages and can be changed again at any time.
