Creating Circle Match Items

Circle Match items provide a set of match options in a circle. Students can click any two or more options on the circle to match them together. A line appears, connecting the matched options.

To create a Circle Match item from the template:

1.In the Compose Item Prompt section, replace the sample text with the content for the item's question. You can use the toolbar to format text and insert media. For more information, see Appendix D.

2.The Create Circle Match Options section displays sample match options on the circle. You can click inside these options to replace the sample text with the content for the match options.

3.To create additional match options, click Add Match Option above the circle and enter the content for the new option. You can add up to 12 match options on the circle.

a.Optional: To remove an option, select that option on the circle template and click trash icon beside it.

4.In the Construct Answer Keys section, enter a value in the Maximum Score field to specify the maximum score for the item.

5.To set restrictions on the student’s matches, do the following:

a.To set a maximum number of connections students can make for the item, enter a value in the Maximum Number of Matches field.

b.To set a maximum number of connections students can make for each match option on the circle, enter a value in the Maximum Number of Matches Per Option field.

6.To create the answer key for the item, do the following:

a.In the Point field, enter the score for a correct (or partially correct) response.

b.In the provided response area, click the pairs of match options that would be connected in order to earn the score entered in the Point field.

c.Optional: In the Explanation field, explain why the entered response is worth the score you specified.

7.Optional: If the item has more than one correct or partially-correct answers, create additional answer keys:

a.Click add answer key beside the Point field. A new response area tab appears.

b.Repeat step 6.

c.Optional: To remove an answer key, click trash icon in the tab for that answer key.

8.Optional: If you want to provide a description of the scoring criteria to view in reports for the item, mark the Include Scoring Description checkbox. Then fill out the Description and Exemplar fields that appear.

9.To save the item, click Save above the template.
