Create Edit Task Inline Choice Items

Edit Task Inline Choice items provide a section of text in which one or more dropdown menu appear in place of words or phrases. Students select answer options from the dropdown menu to complete the sentence.

For example, an Edit Task Inline Choice item could provide a sentence with a dropdown menu in place of a vocabulary word and ask students to select the correct spelling of it from the list.

1.To fill out the template, in the Compose Item Prompt section, replace the sample text with the content for the item's question. You can use the toolbar in this box to format text and insert media elements.

2.The Create Edit Task Elements with Inline Choice Lists section displays sample text content, including an editable word. Delete this sample text and enter the text content containing the word(s) that students will select.

3.To set up the dropdown lists for a word or phrase, do the following:

a.Highlight the word or phrase in the text box.

b.Select Set as Editable below the text box. A border appears around the selected word and the Inline Choice window appears.

c.In the Inline Choice window, enter an answer option in the blank text box.

d.To add additional options, select Add Option and enter the option in the new text box that appears.

e.Optional: To remove an option, select Remove Choice button beside that option.

4.Optional: To tag additional words that students can replace, repeat step 3.

a.Optional: To remove an editable word's dropdown list, select that word and select Clear Editable.

5.In the Construct Answer Keys section, the Maximum Score is automatically set based on the number of editable text elements you created. You cannot customize this score.

6.To create the item’s answer key, select the correct response options from the dropdown lists that appear in the sample answer area. The item will automatically assign students the appropriate number of points for their response based on the number of correct selections they made.

7.Optional: If you want to provide a description of the scoring criteria to view in reports for the item, select the Include Scoring Description checkbox. Then fill out the Description and Exemplar fields that appear.

8.To save the item, select Save above the template.
