Standard Reports

The Strengths and Weaknesses by Standard Report displays data for all the standards for each of the reporting categories in the selected test grade and subject.

For information about the entity levels at which standard performance data is available, see Table 1.

Note: Target reports are available for Smarter Summative assessments only.

Understanding the Standard Report

The Strengths and Weaknesses by Standard Report shows how a group of students performed on a test’s standards. The standards in this report are grouped together by reporting categories, such as Reading and Writing, and the sub-categories within those reporting categories, such as Informational Texts.

Note: Student-level reports are not available for Standard performance, because individual students do not usually respond to enough items with the same standard to generate a report of strengths and weaknesses.

The Areas of Strongest and Weakest Performance column indicates the students’ strengths and weaknesses in each standard, relative to their performance on the test as a whole. It does not indicate the students’ actual proficiency in that standard.

The standard report also provides information about a group’s actual proficiency level in each standard. The Areas where Performance Indicates Proficiency column displays whether the standard performance is above, at, or below the proficiency levels for that test.

Note: Because the relative strengths and weaknesses for eachstandard are computed within a specific student group, it is not appropriate to compare the standard performance between groups.

Table 7 describes each standard performance relative to proficiency level.

Table 7: Areas where Performance Indicates Proficiency Indicators
Icon Standard Level Description
Target Proficiency Level Above Standard Above the Proficiency Standard The group of students performed above the proficiency threshold on this standard.
Target Proficiency Level Borderline Borderline The group of students performed near the proficiency threshold on this standard.
Target Proficiency Level Below Standard Below the Proficiency Standard The group of students performed below the proficiency threshold on this standard.
Insufficient information for target Insufficient Information Not enough information is available to determine whether the performance on this standard is above, near, or below the proficiency threshold.

Table 8 describes the areas of strongest and weakest performance relative to the test as a whole.

Table 8: Areas of Strongest and Weakest Performance Indicators
Icon Standard Level Description
Target is a strength Area of Strength This standard is a relative strength. The group of students performed better on items from this standard than they did on the test as a whole.
Target is neither a strength nor a weakness Performance is similar to performance on the test as a whole This standard is neither a relative strength nor a relative weakness. The group of students performed about as well on items from this standard as they did on the test as a whole.
Target is a weakness Area of Weakness This standard is a relative weakness. The group of students did not perform as well on items from this standard as they did on the test as a whole.
Insufficient information for target Insufficient Information Not enough information is available to determine whether this standard is a relative strength or weakness.
