Entering Scores for Unscored Items
In order for a student’s test performance to be recorded, scores or condition codes must be selected for all hand-scorable item responses on the test opportunity
You can score unscored test opportunities only for one school at a time. If your account is associated with multiple schools, you can switch between them.
To enter scores for unscored items:
-
To enter scores for an item response, select the item scoring link in the required student’s row on the Test Scoring page. The Item Scoring page appears.
This page contains an Item Score section, a Scoring Notes section, the item itself with the student’s response, and some other controls.
-
When the Rubric & Resources switch is turned on, you can review the item’s scoring rubric and any other available resources. The switch setting persists across login sessions.
-
Optional: When the Student Settings switch is turned on, any visual settings the student used during the assessment, such as large font, are shown on the item. Your preference persists across login sessions.
-
Scroll down to review the student’s entered response. From the Item Score section dropdown list, select a number of points or a condition code.
-
If the item has multiple scoring criteria, select a number of points or a condition code for each. When assigning condition codes to multiple scoring criteria, note that some related criteria may require the codes to be the same.
-
In some cases, the rubric may refer to related items on the test, and scoring of this item will depend in part on the student’s responses to those items. The related items can be viewed under numbered sub-tabs.
Note: For more information on condition codes, refer to Appendix B.
-
-
Optional: If you wish to provide a scoring or condition code explanation to other users, click Add Note in the Scoring Notes section, then enter your comment. Scoring notes save automatically.
-
You can edit or delete any note you create here by selecting

-
All notes will be deleted when scores are submitted and processed.

To continue scoring items, do one of the following:
-
To access another item for the same student, select
or
at the top-left corner.
-
To access the same item for another student, use the dropdown list of student names above the item or select
or
to the right of the dropdown.
-
To select another item manually from the Test Scoring page, use the Test Scoring link at the top-left corner.
-
If you need to change the entered score for an item response, return to that item by selecting its numeric score on the Test Scoring page.
-
Note that for some items, scores are automatically transformed, with the ultimate point value differing from the point values you entered.
Once you have entered scores for all the unscored items in a test opportunity, you may submit that opportunity for processing.
