Rendering a Scaffolding Interaction

The Renderer tab for Scaffolding interactions allows you to specify the answer options' content and orientation, as well as add feedback messages that appear when students select each option. You can also upload audio clips to play when students navigate to and from the interaction.

To complete the Renderer tab for a Scaffolding interaction:

1.In the Configuration panel, select Scaffolding from the Interaction Type dropdown list.

2.Optional: To add an audio clip to play when students access the interaction, or to replace the existing clip, click Enter Audio in the Design panel.

a.In the Media Upload: Audio window, click Browse.

b.In the CKFinder window, double-click the file you want.

c.In the Media Upload: Audio window, click Generate Files. When the files are finished generating, click OK. The answer option displays the audio clip.

d.Optional: To delete the audio clip, click Enter Audio again.

3.Optional: To add an audio clip to play when students leave the interaction, or to replace the existing clip, click Exit Audio. Follow steps 2.ac.

4.Optional: To add an image to an answer option, right-click the gray answer option template and select Add Image.

a.In the Image Properties window, click Browse Server.

b.In the CKFinder window, double-click the file you want.

c.In the Image Properties window, click OK. The answer option displays the image. Note that when you enter content for an answer option, a new gray template appears for the next potential answer option.

5.Optional: To add an audio clip to the answer option, or to replace the existing clip, right-click the option and select Add Audio Clip. Follow steps 2.ac.

6.To set the interaction to end when students select a particular answer option, mark the Completes Question checkbox. If you do not mark this checkbox, the option disappears when students select it, and the interaction gives them another chance to select the correct option. If you want students to only have one chance to select an option, mark this checkbox for each answer option you add. You must mark it for at least one option.

7.Optional: To enter or edit the rationale for an answer option, right-click the option and select Add Rationale. Enter or edit the rationale in the CKEditor that appears. For help using the CKEditor, refer to Appendix A. The rationale will not display for the student.

8.Optional: To add a feedback image to display when students select an answer option, or to replace the existing image, right-click the option and select Add Feedback Image. Follow steps 4.ac.

9.Optional: To add a feedback audio clip to play when students select an answer option, or to replace the existing clip, right-click the option and select Add Feedback Audio. Follow steps 2.ac.

10.Optional: To add a tag to an answer option, right-click the option and select Add Tag. Follow the instructions in the Tagging Text with Synonyms, Definitions, Text-to-Speech, or Braille section of Appendix A.

11.Optional: To create additional answer options, repeat steps 410.

12.Optional: To rearrange answer options, click Drag-and-drop handle on the right side of an answer option and drag it to a new location.

13.Optional: To delete an answer option, right-click it and select Delete Choice.

14.To save the entered content, click Save Interaction in the upper-right corner. Click OK in the confirmation pop-up that appears.
