Creating Rubrics to Enable Scoring
A rubric is a set of scoring instructions for an item. There are four rubric tools in IAT:
- Rubric Editor: This editor allows you to create assertions and scoring expressions for machine-scored interactions in the item. Refer to Creating a Standard Rubric.
- Human Readable Rubric (HRR) Editor: This editor allows you to enter the criteria used to score the item and to set the maximum score for the item. This editor is used to create rubrics for hand-scored interactions, or to simply write out a supplementary readable version of the rubric for machine-scored interactions. The HRR Editor is also available in a read-only view within the standard Rubric Editor. Refer to Creating a Human-Readable Rubric.
- Rubric Admin Tool: This tool allows you to delete rubric content. Refer to Using the Rubric Admin Tool.
- Paper Response Tester: This tool is not used to construct a rubric, but it allows you to test out the scoring functionality for paper-based interactions. Refer to Verifying that Paper Scoring Works in the Paper Response Tester.
You can access these rubric tools from the Rubrics dropdown list in the upper-left corner of the IAT homepage (Figure 1).
Note that if you used a scoring template to define an interaction's variables, you do not need to set up a rubric for the item.
